Alarm.com Places is a location-based automation feature built into the Alarm.com app. It uses your mobile device's location to detect when you're arriving at or leaving a geo-fenced area, like your home, and automatically triggers actions across your connected devices. When you leave, it can arm your security system, turn off lights, and adjust your thermostat. When you arrive, it can disarm your system, unlock your door, and turn on lights. You set your preferences once, and Places handles the rest.

A geo-fence is a virtual boundary drawn around a physical location, such as your home. When your phone crosses that boundary, Alarm.com Places triggers the automations you've set up. Every Alarm.com account includes a default Home Place, which is automatically set to your home address with a one-mile radius geo-fence. You can adjust the size and location of your geo-fence directly in the app.

Alarm.com Places can trigger automations across a wide range of connected devices, including smart lights, smart locks, thermostats, garage door controllers, and your security system. The specific devices available depend on what's installed and connected to your Alarm.com system. Your service provider can help you identify compatible devices and configure the right automations for your home.

Yes. Alarm.com Places is available on both iOS and Android through the Alarm.com app. Your Home Place is created automatically when you access the feature for the first time. Note: Some custom-branded versions of the Alarm.com app may have Location Services turned off. Contact your service provider if you don't see Places in your app.

Yes. When you leave your Home Place, your thermostat can automatically adjust to an energy-saving setting and turn off smart lights and switches. When you return, it can restore your preferred settings before you walk in. Over time, not heating or cooling an empty home can add up to meaningful savings on your utility bills.

Yes. Multiple users on the same Alarm.com account can each enable Location Services on their own mobile devices. This means automations can respond to any household member's location. For example, your system can stay disarmed as long as anyone is still home, or trigger arrival automations when the first person gets back.

To get started, enable Location Services on your mobile device. The first time you open Places in the Alarm.com app, you'll be prompted to turn on Location Services. You can also enable it at any time through App Settings under the More tab of the app menu. Your Home Place is created automatically once Location Services is active. You can then set up automation rules through the Alarm.com app or customer website.
